Debbie is the founder of Leadbeater and Kay which started in 1992. Graduating from Birmingham University, Debbie worked in private practice and within the local government before setting up her own business. 

 

Debbie lead the way in female owned law firms with outstanding success and longevity.

 

As Managing Director, Debbie oversees the operations of the business and acts as the firms Compliance Officer.

Debbie represents client in serious matters at the Crown Court and the Magistrates Court where she is known for her caring but firm approach. 

 

Debbie has assisted as a junior counsel in serious cases, some involving Murder, tax fraud, benefit fraud and drugs to mention a few.

Paul is a Director of Leadbeater and Kay. 

Having graduated from Reading University in 1980, he has experience in both prosecution and Criminal defence giving Paul a unique advantage when it comes to defending his clients. 

 

Paul is our guru for all things Magistrate! He enthusiastically passes down his  decades of experience in defending our clients at the Magistrates Court, creating a line of succession that has not only quality and experience but passion for success. 

 

Most recently Paul successfully cross examined a police officer leading to his client being acquitted from all charges and a high profile benefit trial where it was Paul who pointed out the prosecutions calculation was wrong and the DWP had been withholding evidence.  

 

Paul has spent may years as a solicitor in our multi discipline firm, which has generated him a reputation as somewhat of an authority in drafting of wills and assisting the elderly. Our clients certainly appreciate his reassuring approach.

Kevin Mortlock

Most recently Kevin has litigated on complex cases requiring specialist medical reports and matters concerning offences ranging from Murder, sexual offences and Drugs.

Lee is our resident expert in all things Proceeds of Crime.

Lee graduated her LLB from Keele University and obtained a Masters in Law from Staffordshire University. 

 

Since qualification Lee has focused her expertise on successfully defending clients in all matters but with special emphasis in proceeds of crime.  She has a tenacious appetite for success
 

Lee has negotiated over £100 Million in benefit across multiple clients successfully and most recently obtained Bail from the Crown Court , for a client found transporting over £40,000 in Class B drugs, having been remanded by the Magistrates.

 

Lee has represented clients in all manner of serious offences including but not restricted to Rape, Robbery, Murder, Drug Conspiracy and Fraud and has extensive understanding on how to appoint the right expert in these fields.

Every October  Noah will champion a Free Wills Campaign, where we offer a Will writing service free of charge, to those valued clients who book an appointment in October.

 

Noah specialises in drafting Lasting Power of Attorneys, he offers an easy solution to an otherwise complex area of law. 

 

Noah provides vital support to the Crown Court team in the form of trial preparation and has worked on many notable high profile cases ranging from Murder, drugs conspiracy and child neglect.

John Kay

John joined the family firm in 2023 after qualifying from Oxford Brookes University in Law. 

 

John is currently qualifying as a solicitor under the new apprentice  training scheme and started his advocacy career in the Civil courts.

 

John will be be representing our police station clients in 2024 and is our criminal legal aid expert.

 

John assisted counsel and supported a very vulnerable client throughout  Manslaughter proceedings at Stafford Crown Court at the end of 2023.

Angela joined Leadbeater & Kay on the 5th November 2001 with her initial role being to assist as a Legal Secretary in our Family Department, undertaking administration duties and assisting clients. 

 

Angela then moved on within the company to assist in the Criminal Department.  Angela is our organiser, She strategically makes sure we are where we should be at all times.  

 

Angela has an added role in the Company’s Probate Department. 

Angela assists with attending the clients, the taking of the initial instructions, she is a safe pare of hands and our clients  welcome her familiar face.

 

Karen Potts

Karen joined the firm in 1999, since which she has lent her hand to assisting all departments within the firm.  

Karen specialises in looking after the clients while visiting our offices and provides secretarial assistance in areas of commercial and residential conveyancing. 

During lockdown Karen undertook open university courses.
